About

The Comic

Under the foggy skies of London, 18XX, something sinister brews. A strange drug that claims to purify one’s very soul leaves patients undone, their most hidden self brought to the surface.

Miss Gabrielle Utterson, always a detective at heart, is determined to get to the bottom of this. But what will she make of the path the clues illuminate? Especially when Dr. Henry Jekyll, one of her closest friends, is at the center of everything? As she investigates everything from illustrious high-class parties to dingy bars avoided by most sensible folk, will she come to understand the dual nature of mankind?

In this dramatic reimagining of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, secrets will be uncovered, mad science will be tested, and our daring protagonist will grow close with a side of herself long unacknowledged. But will she falter at what she meets, or come to accept… what resides in the cheval glass?

Updates Wednesdays at 9:00AM CST/CDT!

The Author

Hi there! My name is Celeste, or Celestetcetera online. Outside of webcomics, I’m a 2D digital animator and illustrator, and graduated from Depaul University in 2023 with an BFA in Animation. I am a huge lover of gothic horror, sci-fi, musicals, and bugs!

I began drawing this webcomic in early 2025, about six months after reading the original Strange Case. I’m shocked it took me as long as it did to check out the novella, as Jekyll/Hyde’s unique identity issues is one of my all-time favorite tropes. But once I did, I fell in love. Funnily enough, I only originally read the novella by pure chance, bored on a flight to visit my extended family for a couple weeks. They were then, of course, subjected to my hyperfixation rants for the entire duration of my stay.

I began Cheval Glass after I had consumed probably about 20 odd other adaptations of the source material. Despite there being no lack of variety or creativity when it comes to adapting Strange Case, I had yet to see a single adaptation that played with a concept I greatly enjoyed; namely, what if Dr. Jekyll tested his potion on other people? An idea struck me, and I began sketching a short comic sequence for a climatic moment. I showed my sibling, who was greatly intrigued, and a day later I had a rough bullet-point outline. Shortly after, this comic came to be!
