The other week I visited my friend in the city to say hi and see her new place, as she’s just moved apartments. Within an hour, our queer little group– her, me (still dressed in my work clothes), and her roommate– were sitting outside, whacking a scrap of wood propped up on some cinderblocks we found lying around with a tiny portable hatchet. The reason for this activity? to cut the wood to size so we could use it to prop up a shelf that wouldn’t fit in their bathroom otherwise. it was a very silly activity to end up doing so early into the evening, hahaha. I was worried the noise would bother people, but instead the neighbors introduced themselves and offered us bigger, better tools to whack it with. And ain’t that just what human connection is really about?
