…So yes, there’s a bit of inspiration from other adaptations in this comic. I know this kind of brothel scene can feel a little shoehorned in, but I hope you guys like where I go with this. As a general note, since I haven’t really posted any content warnings for this comic, this upcoming scene doesn’t have any explicit sex– I’m too ace for that, lol.

I have no idea how Victorian brothels advertised their services, despite a rather frantic research session. The general conclusion I’ve reached is that they definitely had to be subtle, despite the prominence of prostitution. Perhaps it’s all word-of-mouth and knowing where to look? Regardless, it’s important that Utterson here recognizes what she’s walking into, and still chooses to enter.

I tend to struggle with backgrounds, but I’ve recently began thinking of them in terms of shape language – my favorite aspect of drawing characters. There’s a lot of spots to put interesting shapes rather than bland rectangles/straightforward perspective. Still, I often get bored halfway through…
