Let’s play a game called: Can! You! Spot! ALL the gothic lit references?

In that vein, actually, I semi-recently watched Frankenstein (2025). It was pretty good! Funny how they strayed from the original book in sometimes rather strange ways (why is it set a century later? Just for vibes?) Also– I outed myself as a huge nerd because, before they had the year listed on screen, I said aloud that the fits were more 1800s than 1700s, which I assumed was a let’s-not-worry-about-total-historical accuracy thing (hey, I know the feeling). This being said, I enjoyed the way it strayed from the book to better commit to its themes. I’ve never been one to push total book accuracy, and honestly many of my favorite adaptations get quite liberal with it. It’s all about how you apply the concept, babey!
