Oh, Utterson honey you’re so close. Dramatic irony my beloved~

To anyone who caught the spoiler for this page, betcha didn’t expect Jekyll to be the one Hyde’s stabbing at!

Utterson’s incorrect theorizing here draws from personal experience on my part. I semi-recently watched a movie that shares the twist of Jekyll & Hyde, and despite being actively locked into the trope, I somehow managed to be completely blindsided by it. Instead, I interpreted the two characters as lovers, AND also somehow theorized that two unrelated characters were the same person??? Amazing just how off I was. (Also– bonus points if anyone can guess the movie I’m talking about. Hint: it’s very popular!)

One last note about this page– that last panel with all the gooey Jekylls is inspired by book!Utterson’s night terrors of Hyde. Although I could have sworn it had more detail… upon re-investigating the passage of the book, he doesn’t really describe him as much more than faceless and sort of melty? Many such cases, I find, whenever referring back to the novella. RLS really was allergic to concrete detail.
