Research for this comic has been interesting. I like to get a good grasp of the setting I’m working in, and then choose to break the rules as I see fit. For example, the fashion of the characters is based in reality, but a huge mix of styles found throughout the entire 19th century, which isn’t exactly realistic. To the extent that people reuse clothing from past decades, it is, I suppose.
That being said, Poole! She’s genderbent like Utterson, though I realize her pronouns might not show up in this comic. So to clarify: Poole’s a woman. She’s in the traditionally male occupation of butler because Jekyll chose to promote an experienced member of his staff over hiring some new guy. A decision that I’m pleased to report, is based on an actual account of the past!
