When planning this comic, I had a lot of fun hammering out Utterson’s characterization. The fandom meme is that novella!Utterson is the most boring plain white bread of a man to exist, and I do love that, but we’ve gotta acknowledge that man is the nosiest motherfucker in the book. My personal favorite combo of Utterson traits is boring exterior + detective-like nosiness + doing slightly unhinged things to satisfy that nosiness. Ergo, Utterson trying to lockpick with a knife here.

I’ve recently discovered the joys of comic onomatopoeia – like that creeeeak that emerges from the door. You can do a lot with the font/position/wording of these effects; I definitely recommend playing around with them if you’re making a comic of your own!
