That strange feeling Utterson is experiencing? Gay thoughts.
I’m carrying on the grand tradition of adaptational canon adding in random women. I love the original novella, but I also love many, many other adaptations, and as I developed the story, some nods to those naturally presented. Now, I cheekily say random women, but these characters should have an important place in the story – definitely one of my major complaints when it comes to adaptations is that a lot of them create these really cool women and then don’t do anything interesting with them!
While I stole her name from the musical, Lucy’s character here is inspired by quite a few Hyde-love-interest girls. Largely musical Lucy, The Glass Scientist’s Lucy, and ITV’s Bella Charming.
Sidenote, WOW do a lot adaptations do this really specific thing where Jekyll gets a love interest and Hyde gets a love interest, each one weirdly matching their vibes? Anyway, I suppose if my Lucy here is the Hyde-love-interest-girl, I think I’ve accidentally slotted Lanyon into the Jekyll-love-interest-girl. Oops?
